Various methods can be used to target both lake trout and whitefish simultaneously.  One such method that we’ve found to be deadly is the drop shot method with a little spin added to it.  Using a Lil Foxee jig as your bottom weight, tipped with a minnow allows you to attract whitefish on the bottom, with another minnow a couple of feet above it to attract Lakers cruising just off the bottom.  Watch the video for the full scoop on the lil foxee drop shot method.
